Lecture: Heavy and quiet
Tomás Varela at the Porto school on why weight is a kind of calm.

Tomás Varela gave this year's Távora lecture in Porto. The talk followed one stone from the Pedreira quarry floor to the step it became.
He argued that heaviness in architecture is not a style but a promise: that the building will still be there, and still be the same, when the people who commissioned it are not.
The recording is in the school's archive. Slides are available on request.
